My obsession with donuts apparently extends from heavenly deep-fried dough covered with sugary goodness to gemstones that are cut in the donut shape. Although sometimes I don't really know which I enjoy having more hahaha… Recently I purchased a bunch of lower grade jadeites from a closing down sale of a gem shop in Singapore (very sad, because they have really nice good quality stuff At reasonable prices), which were all donuts!!! I went berserk literally. I suppose donuts are not popular because of its shape that simply relates to a “dated” & “old-fashioned” kind of style, but that is exactly what makes them alluring to me. Or maybe I'm just obsessed with round things (no pun intended, just talking about objects in general). What I find challenging and exciting is to try and transform what deemed to be old-fashioned and boring into a statement piece that can transcend any time & era.
Here are some of my donut designs which I have done so far:
Black jadeite donut wire sculpted with goldfilled wire, mixed in with tigers eye, onyx, hematite and goldfilled beads bracelet.
Triple jadeite donuts pendant, sculpted with gold-filled and brass wire, gold plated beads, amethyst, aventurine rose quartz beads.
Sculpted with 925 silver, red agates and silver beads.
